Keep Your Sense of Humor When Dealing With Worker’s Excuses

Actually a good dose of humor is a wonderful remedy for the pressures brought about by change. Being able to joke about it helps defuse worker anger, and it can relieve the frustrations of dealing with a thousand excuses as to why a change can’t be implemented. In fact, the bigger the change the more excuses there will be as to why it won’t work. What you have to do is concentrate on countering every excuse one by one. This can be a trying experience, and after you’ve heard what seems like a million excuses, you will recognize why it’s so difficult to implement any form of radical change.

It requires a lot of patience, but one of the keys to ultimate success is to counter excuses from workers who will give you all sorts of reasons why a change isn’t working as it should. Carefully explaining why each and every excuse isn’t valid is time-consuming, but it shows workers that you have faith in the change. With workers inclined to be naturally skeptical about changes, displaying your confidence will lead employees to question their doubts. And as you painstakingly explain why excuses have no validity, you will gradually convince all but the most stubborn of the naysayers in your department.
