Types of Celebrations that Leader Can Organize for Its People
March 8th, 2006 (Leadership)
One of the great things that leader of any organization can do for its people is to create a sense of community and belonging. This in turn builds the group self-esteem. Below are several ways in which celebrations can be organized:
Organizational change and transition: expansions, reorganizations, closings, mergers, the end of an old technology and the introduction of a new one, moves to new locations
Success: financial success, promotions, awards, expansions to new markets
Loss: of old procedures, financial opportunities, contracts, a job, status, a colleague who has just died, an experiment that ended in failure
People: team successes, founders, winners of sales contests, employee awards, individual birthdays, marriages, reunions, doing good deeds for others
Events: a company’s anniversary, opening day, holidays, articulation of an organization’s vision
The unknown: paradox, ambiguity in the marketplace
From this list, we’re sure you can find something to call people together to celebrate during the next week. Whatever you decide to celebrate and for whatever reason, do so knowing that as a leader you are bringing more joy into people’s lives, and fulfilling one of the most important functions of a leader. You are strengthening a sense of community, a team spirit that will infuse your organization with greater positive energy to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.
