Personality Test
Personality tests are designed to identify personality characteristics. They vary from quickie questionnaires to highly sophisticated psychological evaluations. A great deal of controversy exists over the value of these types of tests. Supervisors and team leaders are cautioned not to make decisions based on the results of personality tests unless experts make the full implications clear to them.
Sometimes you can’t win. If you hire someone whose test score is low and that person fails, management may blame you for not considering the test results. If you have someone whose score is high and he or she succeeds, management often credits the test instead of complimenting you for using good judgment. Are these tests worth the cost? It depends on whom you speak to. Most of the companies that use some form of testing report mixed results. However, as many factors - not just the test results - are considered before making the hiring decision, it’s difficult to determine just how valuable the tests are.
