Advantages of Using a Computer for Your Genealogy Research
August 16th, 2006 (Genealogy)
Today, several computer programs are available which help to organize and file any and all of the ancestors and relatives you have discovered. You input the information into the computer and it files the people according to their relationship. You can get a printed copy of any of the charts for your files.
If you are familiar with computers and are interested in one of these software packages, contact the clerk at the genealogy and local history department of your public library and your nearest genealogy society. You may also look up several genealogy magazines, or visit a local computer store to get information about these programs.
One of the biggest advantages to these programs is the ease of transferring the information from one CD to another. If you happen to meet someone in your research travels who is a very distant relative of yours, who also has input their information into the computer, you can very easily get copies of each others information by simply making copies of your disks. The rest of us either have to make photocopies or copy everything by hand which can be very time consuming.
